The Cause

  • More than 2.7 billion people live in countries where being gay is punishable by prison, lashes or even death.
  • Being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender is illegal in almost 80 countries.
  • Eight countries implement the death penalty for homosexuality – Iran, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia, Iraq and Yemen, while a further 76 countries punish sexual minorities with imprisonment or corporal punishment. Nigeria and Somalia
  • Lesbian and gay persons worldwide are seven times as likely to live in a country where being gay can lead to imprisonment and death, than to live in a country that legally recognizes same-sex marriage.
  • We alone can’t change the world. But the fact that we care can inspire change. One case at a time, we can demonstrate our belief in humanity.
